President's Message
I am grateful to the John M. Langston Bar Association and the incredibly meaningful impact that it has had in my life, both professionally and personally. I moved to Los Angeles twelve years ago to attend Southwestern Law School. I did not know anyone. My goal was to keep my head down, get through law school and graduate. I was so fortunate the day that I met Kim Carter and Jamon Hicks – both leaders in the Langston Bar Association community -- on campus at a Bar Association fair. When I walked over to the Langston table to introduce myself, they eagerly described the benefits of joining Langston, and
encouraged me to sign up. Soon thereafter, I joined the Youth Outreach Committee and have been actively involved in Langston ever since.
I have stayed involved in Langston all of these years because I believe in our mission: To empower leadership, advance the professional development of its membership, and promote the administration of justice in the Black community and the community at large.
I am passionate about Langston because our purpose is to inspire, educate, motivate, support, encourage, and to lift each other up as we climb.
The theme for the 2018 year is “Creating Realities Through Education and Opportunity.” Langston is about identifying and creating opportunities to learn and advance. This year, we hope that you share your ideas, creativity, vision, ambition and commitment as we move forward and strive to accomplish our many goals.
Join us in our mission and purpose. Become a member. Get involved in a committee. We look forward to seeing you at the 42nd Annual Scholarship & Awards Gala on February 24, 2018 where we will be honoring inspiring figures in the African-American community and we hope to see you at other great events throughout the year.
